Objection 01 – Does this Comparison even Apply?
You should not compare apples with oranges, as a popular proverb states, since they are incomparable. Therefore the question arises: Is this comparison between the evolution of the automobile and the evolution of life sound? Can we apply it? The answer to that question is “Yes”. It applies especially since
- Benz referred to his first motor car (a machine that has a purpose) as an “organism”, a “child” with a “birth certificate” into which he as the “father” tried to “breath live”, and which had to be brought to a point where it would be “able to live”.[1]
- Richard Dawkins, one of the world’s most leading atheists and proponents of Neo-Darwinian Evolution, writes: “We [human beings] are machines for propagating DNA, and the propagation of DNA is a self-sustaining process. It is every living object’s sole reason for living.”[2]
Since Dawkins likens human beings to bio-mechanical machines that have a purpose and Benz likens his first motor car to an “organism” that breathes and lives and has a purpose, and since both the human life and the first motor car are examples of what is called an irreducible complex system[3], the comparison of the respective development is not a stretch of the imagination.
